The event “Re:Imagine – Youth, Spaces, and Participation” was held in Warsaw, Poland, as the first in-situ meeting of the Youth Re:Build project and marked the official launch of Work Package 1. The meeting brought together participants from Poland, Serbia, Italy, Montenegro, Lithuania, Portugal, Cyprus and Spain, creating the first transnational space for exchange, coordination and reflection on youth participation in shaping inclusive and sustainable public spaces. The event was designed not only as a formal project opening, but also as a participatory process aimed at introducing the project’s vision and methodology, while engaging participants in understanding their role in urban transformation and co-creation processes..

Day 1

A central part of the event was devoted to interactive and non-formal learning activities focused on participatory urbanism, co-creation and youth engagement in public spaces. These activities were designed not only as standalone workshops, but also as interconnected processes integrating elements of rapid ideation, role-based reflection and collective vision-building.

Within the “Living Spaces Lab – Build Your Dream City”, participants engaged in hands-on exercises that incorporated elements of quick design thinking and solution-oriented approaches, allowing them to propose immediate improvements to urban environments, in line with rapid urban intervention methodologies. In parallel, role-based discussions and perspective-shifting dynamics were embedded within group activities, enabling participants to reflect on the roles of local authorities, urban planners and young citizens in decision-making processes, thus fostering dialogue between different stakeholders.

These approaches were complemented by the activity “The Public Space Detective – Urban Exploration & Mapping”, through which participants explored the city of Warsaw and analysed public spaces in terms of inclusivity, accessibility and usability. This activity encouraged participants to critically assess their urban environments and to better understand how public spaces can be shaped through participatory processes.

Day 2

On the second working day, the focus shifted towards dissemination, reflection and storytelling. The dissemination session allowed partners to align communication strategies and discuss how to maximise the visibility and impact of the project at both local and European levels, laying the groundwork for future outreach and stakeholder engagement.

This was followed by the “Urban Storytelling – My Space, My Story” activity, implemented through a study visit, where participants explored personal connections to public spaces through storytelling. This session enabled participants to reflect on how individuals experience urban environments and how these experiences relate to identity, inclusion and participation.

The “Public Space Detective” activity continued with the presentation of participants’ findings, allowing for collective reflection, peer learning and exchange of perspectives. Through this process, participants were encouraged to articulate their ideas, share insights and engage in dialogue about potential improvements to urban spaces.

Throughout the event, emphasis was placed on fostering dialogue, collaboration and shared responsibility among participants. The transnational dimension of the meeting strengthened connections between participants from different European contexts, reinforcing a sense of belonging to a broader movement of youth-led urban innovation.

Conclusion

The event concluded with a farewell dinner, including an informal evaluation session, where participants reflected on the activities implemented, shared feedback and discussed expectations for the next phases of the project. This final moment contributed to consolidating the partnership and ensuring continuity between Work Package 1 and subsequent activities.

Overall, the event successfully fulfilled the objectives of Work Package 1 by introducing the vision and methodology of Youth Re:Build, engaging participants in participatory urbanism and co-creation processes, fostering dialogue between different stakeholders, and encouraging critical reflection on inclusivity, accessibility and sustainability in public spaces. Through workshops, field exploration, storytelling, collaborative reflection and coordination sessions, the event generated valuable insights and initial ideas that will feed into the development of practical urban interventions and policy-oriented outputs in the following Work Packages.

The next event will be held in May in Serbia.
